On the eight of September 2018 Lets Tri Cavan hosted a mini splash and dash, kids aquathon and a sprint triathlon in Killykeen Forest Park. The park was well out of the way and quite difficult to find, with next to no signs and loads of little country roads. Other than that the event was extremely well organised with loads of very helpful volunteers.

The distances ranged from a wee splash in the water and 300 metre run for 3-8 year olds to a 300 metre swim and a 3 kilometre run for 12 -15 year olds. There was a very friendly atmosphere in the kids aquathon with a big emphasis on participation.

It was a very early start for the MSC Tri kids who had to be in Killykeen before half eight in the morning. The conditions were fabulous the sun was shining down on us and the lake was completely still.

Well done to all the competitors and members from MSC Tri junior who took part especially Nessa Warren who placed fifth overall in the under 10 boys and girls race (after a very strong first out of the water), Alan Vaughan and Emer McDevitt who placed third and fifth overall in the under 11 boys and girls race and Daire McDevitt who placed second in the 12-15 race.

Thank you very much to Martin McDevitt who took up his own time and worked tirelessly to train the kids.

It was an excellent event and I would definitely urge anyone and everyone to take part in it next year.
