2018 IRONMAN Dun Laoghaire 70.3

On Sun 19 Aug 18, Paul McGee MSC tri club competed in his first half Ironman in Dun Laoghaire Dublin.

At 7:32am he started his swim in very choppy waters. To add to this, before reaching the first buoy it had become dislodged and floated out to sea adding an additional 400metres to Paul’s overall swimming. His swim time was 0:56mins, approx 0:10 mins slower than expected.

At 8: 37am he set off on his cycle. The course consisted of extreme climbs and very technical downhills with the middle third of the course being the most challenging with extremely wet, windy and poor visibility to deal with. Paul’s bike time was 3hrs 39mins.

At 12:33pm, Paul started the run. The run was a 3 x loop course relatively flat around the scenic Dun Laoghaire harbour. Paul ran a steady run but did find the going tough for the last 3 mile with the warm sunny temperatures now having its say. Paul’s run time was 2hrs 13 mins

Paul’s overall time was 7hrs 4mins. It was a tough day out but he enjoyed every bit of it and is now looking forward to his next challenge.
