Congratulations to Eleanor Rooney and Barry Duffy who took top honours at the recent MSC Tri Annual Awards dinner at the Pier Head Hotel in Mullaghmore taking home the much coveted MSC Tri Triathlete of the Year cups.
New triathletes, Clare Boyle and Ruairi McGee were honoured for their excellent performances in their first season by receiving the Best Newcomer Awards. In the individual disciplines of swimming, cycling and running, Aoibhinn Gallagher was awarded Swimmer of the Year for her podium success in the Metalman Series, while John Rooney's epic Donegal Ultra earned him Cyclist of the Year and for his superb marathon performance in his 50th year, Noel Hoey was awarded Runner of the Year.
After a very successful Summer Time Trial League, Sarah O'Malley Daly and Gabriel Timoney were crowned TT Queen & King for 2017. Another newcomer to triathlon, Rachel McGee was awarded Youth of the Year for her fantastic first season while Ironman of the Year went to Canice Nicholas for his excellent race in Barcelona.
Gerry Cleary was the recipient of a Special Recognition Award for his record breaking Everesting Challenge and Grand Rouleur achievement in May. Ann Morrow for her club work during the year received a special award for Volunteer of the Year and for her courage and vital resolute actions as a first responder, Ruby Hurst was honoured with a Special Recognition Award. Tony Cummins was awarded Club Member of the Year for his coaching and mentoring role whilst also achieving Everest & the Grand Rouleur and his self-supported Malin to Mizen cycle.
The highlight of the evening was a surprise visit by Santa and his beautiful elves with gifts from Cara Pharmacy for all, the good and the naughty! Check out our gallery below for some of the photos of the festivities.
